  • Govt. plans new public funded health insurance scheme

    A new public funded health insurance scheme is on the anvil. The new scheme is aimed to cover every citizen of the country. A high level committee of experts appointed by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is working on this scheme which is likely to be introduced in the 12th Five Year Plan. Member Secretary Planning Commission Sudha Pillai said in New Delhi that under the new policy people will pay premium depending on their income. She said that the Government is likely to pay the entire premium for those below poverty line and also pay higher premium for women. She further added that government’s contribution will decline with increase in income levels. AIR Correspondent reports that besides hospitalization expenses, the new scheme is proposed to cover conditions like heart ailments and pregnancy which are not covered by most private insurance policies.
