  • Govt. plans to bring amendment to Prasar Bharti Act

    Government plans to bring an amendment to the Prasar Bharti Act to ensure that it serves the objectives of Public Service Broadcasting. In an exclusive interview to All India Radio,   the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mrs. Ambika Soni while identifying the challenges for the Broadcasting Corporation of India, said a Group of Ministers is already in place looking into the issues concerning the corporation.

    Favoring that the corporation should be funded by the government to meet its public service broadcasting objectives and added that a road map has to be prepared for this purpose.

    The Minister described All India Radio and Doordarshan as the two most important vehicles of information in the country with a vast reach and said digitalization of the two organizations, opening more stations of All India Radio and Doordarshan and starting the third phase of FM stations have to be the priorities.

    Mrs. Soni who is senior congress leader traced the role of the Congress in the Country’s freedom struggle and said that the focus of the party is to fight the divisive forces who pose a threat to the unity and integrity of the country.

    Congress leader said that the party reflects the political heritage of independence. She added that congress is a mass based party with deep rooted institutional democracy.
