In a public meeting at Darjeeing in support of Trinamool candidate Baichung Bhutia, Banerjee attacked the GTA chief and Gorkha Janamukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung for poor development of hills. She alleged that, in spite of state government’s initiative the GTA failed to play its role. The GJM was busier in the movement of separate state, she alleged.
The chief minister said that her government would come down heavily if call for strike was given. She said that action would be taken against anyone disrupting the normal life in the hills. The state government would not also any creation of new state.
The BJP, she said, it was unfortunate was playing politics to divide West Bengal. The BJP was a “poll-time” party here. Its previous MP never cared for the area once elected.
In another meeting at Siliguri, with filmstar Mithun Chakraborty at Baghajatin park she lambasted the Congress, BJP and CPIM for instigating division of Bengal. She said that Bengal she would not allow any division of the state till she was alive.
The CPM and left forces were conspiring against her, she said. They did not mind colluding with want they called “communal forces” to dislodge her. She urged the people to vote Trinamool for development of the state.
