Heavy to very heavy rainfall has created a flood-like situation in many parts of Gujarat. More than 2,500 people from the low lying areas of Narmada river have been evacuated following release of water from the Sardar Sarovar dam.

Our Correspondent reports that many parts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat are receiving heavy rainfall since this morning.

According to sources, the water level of Sardar Sarovar dam reached up to 131.58 meters this afternoon against its full reservoir level of 138.68 meter. About 8 lakh cusecs of water is being released in Narmada River, which has caused flooding in low lying areas downstream of Narmada and Bharuch district. Narmada River is flowing above its danger mark in Bharuch city.

NDRF teams and other State agencies have been deployed in Bharuch, Ankleshwar and Jhaghadia talukas for rescue and relief works. Many talukas of Surat, Rajkot, Devbhumi Dwarka, Junagadh, Botad, Panchmahal, Banaskantha and Ahmedabad have received more than 100 millimeter rainfall.
