  • India is a country of rich heritage. As the word ‘heritage’ suggests, there are numerous places of historical significance that are a heritage of our country. Most of us are still unexposed (or under-exposed) to the cultural and natural heritage of India. The northern part of India is especially rich in locations that are a true heritage of India. While every historical structure has a story, today, we will share some important destinations that you must visit to complete a heritage tour of North India.

    Agra

Let’s start with the Jewel of India – the Taj Mahal. While this place needs no introduction, there are some interesting stories and myths surrounding it. For example, for many years, locals believe that Emperor Shah Jehan had ordered the amputation of the arms of all artisans so that they couldn’t build another Taj Mahal. Or, he wanted to build a black replica of the Taj Mahal right opposite to it as his final resting place. Stories are many. Talking to locals and finding the details can be fun.

While in Agra, you can also visit the Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. If you are in Delhi, then you can book a sanitised Delhi to Agra taxi with a driver and get there within four hours via the Taj Express Highway.

    Varanasi

Varanasi is known as the Spiritual Capital of India. It is a city that is as old as time itself. At the risk of sounding morbid, Varanasi is the place where life and death come together and offer a spiritual experience that is unparalleled in the world. There are numerous places to visit here like the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Dashashwamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat, Nepali Temple, Kedar Ghat, Batuk Bhairav Temple (don’t miss the Akhand Deep), Banaras Hindu University (for the architecture), Alamgir Mosque, Ramnagar Fort, and various other places of cultural and religious significance.

    Jaipur

Also popularly known as Amber Fort, this is one of the most magnificent palaces in India and is nestled at the top of the Aravali Hills. It is truly an architectural wonder and its serpentine staircases and maze-like passages can mesmerize anyone who passes through it. It was the main residence of the Rajput Rulers and was built by the most trusted generals of Akbar and Maharaja Man Singh I.

While in Jaipur, you can also visit Hawa Mahal, City Palace, and Nahargarh Fort. You can book a chauffeur-driven Delhi to Jaipur Taxi and reach there within 5-6 hours. On the way, you can visit the Bhangarh Fort at Alwar between Delhi and Jaipur.

If you are in the mood to stretch your trip, then you can consider visiting the following destinations too:

    • The Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya
    • Golden Temple at Amritsar
    • Kurukshetra – The Land of Mahabharata
    • Ayodhya – The Birthplace of Lord Rama
    • Jaisalmer
    • Jallianwala Bagh at Amritsar
    • Mehrangarh Fort at Jodhpur

Remember, to immerse yourself in the heritage of our country, it is important to visit such places and experience the culture, food, and traditions followed by locals. A heritage tour cannot be complete without experiencing the complete package.
