  • Hike of 1.09% voters in Assam final electoral rolls

    In Assam, the final electoral rolls for all the 23 thousand 813 polling stations across 126 Legislative Assembly Constituencies of the State have been published on Thursday.

    The electoral rolls have been revised in the State taking first January, 2011 as the qualifying date following an order by the Election Commission of India for a special summary revision.

    According to the State Chief Electoral Officer of the State, Mr. Hemanta Narzary the entire summary revision process was monitored by Roll Observers appointed by the Election Commission.

    The final Roll published on Thursday registered a total of one crore eighty one lakh forty five thousand nine hundred fourteen (1, 81, 45,914) eligible voters. They included ninety three lakh seventy three thousand five hundred twenty (93, 73,520) males and eighty seven lakh seventy two thousand three hundred ninety four (87, 72,394) females.

    The final rolls registered an increase of one point zero nine per cent (1.09%) voters over the draft electoral rolls published on 30th October last year.

    The Election Commission has also decided for continuous updation of the Electoral Rolls with effect from tomorrow (06.01.2011) to facilitate participation of all eligible voters in the forthcoming Assembly election which is due in the State in mid-April this year.
