  • HM to participate in SAARC meeting to be held in Islamabad on Aug 4

    rajnathNew Delhi: Home Minister Rajnath Singh will be representing India in Islamabad for the SAARC meeting on 4th of next month. Briefing media in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said the meeting will discuss regional cooperation on a number of security related matters.

    He said it will also take stock of progress in various regional mechanisms. Mr Swarup said India’s participation is in the context of its Neighbourhood First policy and commitment to regional cooperation.

    Replying to a query, the spokesperson said there is no proposal of bilateral meeting between Mr Rajnath Singh and his Pakistani counterpart in the sidelines of the SAARC meeting. He said New Delhi is ready to discuss every issue with Islamabad but an atmosphere free of terror and violence. He reiterated that terrorism and talks cannot go hand in hand.

    On a Pakistani terrorist caught in Kupwara, Mr Swarup said Ministry is waiting for full report from security agencies before deciding next move.

    Replying to a media query, Mr Swarup said, the visas of the three Chinese journalists had expired and India gave them short term extensions but after that it was not possible. He also informed that India has no issues with the replacements that will be sent on their behalf.
