  • Having the right kind of sunglasses makes it easier to see on a sunny day, whether the water or road. Also, wearing the right kind of sunglasses protects your eyes from harmful Ultraviolet rays from causing long-term and short-term eye damage.

Studies have also shown that more prolonged exposure of eyes to the sun will eventually increase the risk of cataracts, and also causes blindness in the long run. Even a few hours of exposure to the sun will lead to short term blindness known as photokeratitis.

Though everyone has the risk of being attacked by these eye diseases, especially people who have light coloured eyes and children are more susceptible to damage.

So, here are a few tips that can help you to choose the right kind of glasses online:

Block UV 100%: The most important thing while choosing a sunglass is that make sure there is a tag on it indicating that it blocks 100% UV rays. Sadly, not many people who buy sunglasses will not check this tag, and only select the sunglasses based on the model and looks.

Bigger is Better: Make sure that your eyes get more coverage from the sunglasses so that your eyes are less affected by the sunlight. Make sure to buy wraparound style glasses or oversized glasses, which helps to reduce the light entering from the side of the eyes.

No Dark Lens: Though dark lens might look cool, they are not good enough to protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays. Instead pick a lighter colour lens, as they are capable of protecting your eyes and also block the maximum percentage of UV rays.

Colour Does not Matter: When you are selecting sunglasses, colour is not of primary importance. Some sunglasses are available in green, grey, or amber lenses. These lenses do not block more sunlight but are capable of increasing the contrast. This is very helpful for athletes or anyone who play sports like golf or baseball.

Polarized lens does not protect from UV: The polarized lens is only capable of cutting the glare that are coming off reflective surfaces like pavement or water. This does not block more UV rays entering the eyes, but can help activities like driving easier.

Don’t look at the cost: When you want to pick the right kind of sunglasses, cost should not be the primary factor. Also, sunglasses that are capable of 100-percent UV-block are not always pricy. There are many sunglasses at a lower price range, yet capable of 100-percent blocking the UV rays.

As per American University, most people look at the appearance of the sunglasses rather than the sun protection. Hence, one is suggested to avoid this mistake and are requested to focus on the sun protection capability of the sunglasses. Checking at the tag that verifies 100-percent UV blocking, will protect your eyes from serious damages.
