Mangaldai : Illegal smuggling rackets of ‘cannabis’ which has reportedly been operating actively in the central Assam districts bordering Arunachal Pradesh in connivance with a section of corrupt Excise and Police officials have now adopted new tactics of transporting the illegal consignment using cars . This has been evident from an incident on Sunday night when Darrang police after a hot chase has managed to seize a huge quantity of illegal cannabis consignment from a Tezpur-Guwahati bound car . Acting on a secret input and under the direction of Superintendent of Police , Darrang, Amrit Bhuyan a police team led by DSP (HQ) , Mamoni Hazarika at around 9 pm followed an ‘ Eion’ car bearing registration AS12K6940 from Dhula and on way directed the Mangldai police to stop the car . The police placed barricade at Mangaldai , however the speedy vehicle moved forward breaking the police barricade . The police following it immediately sent message to Sipajhar police but the barricade of Sipajhar police too could not stop the vehicle . The police team too didn’t stop their hot chase and finally managed to seize the deserted vehicle near Singimari under Sipajhar Police Station .
Later on search nearly sixty kilogram of cannabis (Ganja) carried in many white plastic bags were recovered from the vehicle . The value of these cannabis in the smuggling market is stated to be around rupees two lakh . The police is on the look out for the absconding smugglers and from the records of the Transport Department has identified the owner of the vehicle as Dirhasar Boro , S/O. Bristi Boro , a resident of No3 Dhansiri Tea Estate , under Mazbat Police Station in Udalguri district .
