Hyderabad Rotarians plege Rs 3.5crore support to Rotary Foundation.

Hyderabad: Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan (RCHD)  committed a sum of USD 500,000 (Rs. 3.5 Crores) to the Rotary Foundation. Rotarian (Rtn.) Uday Pilani handed over the cheque for US$ 100,000 as the first annual tranche to District Governor Rtn. Ramesh Vangala in the presence of senior club members and District leaders in a function held on Sunday night in the city.

Speaking on the occasion President Rotarian Uday Pilani said that 20 members of the club had come together to raise US$ 5000(approximately Rs 3.5 lakh) per head per year for five years. It is perhaps a first for Rotary District 3150 comprising of Telangana, Guntur and Prakasham regions.

Giving of such an amount as a club is a very rare event in the history of Rotary Clubs history in India. India basically is a recipient country, but we want to reverse the trend, in fact, Rotary has reversed the trend and has been giving to the world. The aim behind the exercise is to inspire others to give said Rtn. Uday Pilani.

Speaking on the occasion Rtn. Ramesh Vangala said that the Rotary District 3150 has total 98 clubs working with the main focus to support schools. Apart from that provisioning of RO Water Plants, constructing toilets, play areas, e-learning equipment, etc. are also being done. A lot of borewells have also been set up by Rotarians in many villages. About 100 crores are spent across India by Rotarians in service activities per year, he said.

Rtn. Ramesh Vangala, Past District Governor, Rotary District 3150 said that the Rotary Club had spent about Rs. 1500 crores for Polio eradication in India. Providing basic infrastructure in Government Schools, constructing toilets, providing school benches, drinking water, sanitary napkins, etc. have been the areas of focus for Rotarians. The Rotary Club is working to achieve 100 per cent literacy rate in India by 2025.

The Rotary Club of Hyderabad Deccan (RCHD) is very active in its service activities and with the support of The Rotary Foundation; the club has executed projects in the areas of safe water, literacy, education and health care for local communities. Giving details on the occasion Rtn. G. Shailesh said that RCHD has impacted the life of 20000 school children by providing them with safe water, classrooms and desks, and over 2 lakh villages by provision of RO plants in fluorosis affected areas. The Dialysis Centre set up by RCHD at Secunderabad Gurudwara has completed over 10,000 dialysis at a charge of a mere Rs.300 each. Over the last five years, donors have donated over 16800 units of blood to the Rotary Blood Bank set up by RCHD at Challa Hospital, Ameerpet at a total cost of over Rs.2 crores informed Rtn. Shailesh. RCHD plans to augment the Dialysis Centre to enable it to handle more patients. Currently it serves over 205 patients per day. RCHD is also planning to provide equipment to calibrate medication dosages to cancer affected children, establishment of Emergency and Trauma Care Centres and Vocational Training Centres, he added.
