  • Hygienic kits distributed among the adolescent girls

    K0krajhar: In a positive initiative to help the adolescent girls and women in remote areas to get access to sanitary napkins and other personal hygienic products during the Lockdown, Nedan Foundation, a NGO in Assam Kokrajhar district have come forward to distribute free hygienic kits to ensure safe and dignified menstruation.

     

    These kits contain two packets of sanitary napkins, detergent, soap and a face masks.

    The NGO volunteers through its adolescent clubs in the villages are visiting and distributing the hygienic kits. The group has so far distributed over 2000 hygienic kits in three development blocks in the district covering around 100 villages.

    Besides distributing the hygienic kits, they also intend to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene and its importance and also to maintain social distancing to stop spread of the pandemic coranavirus.

    Talking to this Reporters, a volunteers said the NGO have adolescent clubs in the villages and through them are visiting the villages and distributing the hygienic kits to the needy girls. “So far we have covered over 100 villages in three blocks of Kokrajhar, Dotma and Kachugaon in the district and distributed 2,000 kits. The target is to distribute 6000 kits”.

    “The aim is to help adolescent girls and women in need to ensure safe and dignified menstruation. There are many who are not aware about hygiene and what sanitary napkin is. There are women who still use cotton clothes which can lead to infection and other diseases, she said.

    “We are happy to see the response, support and help from the village elders which is very encouraging. We intend to carry on with our help even till lockdown is over and even after that, she added.
