Manipur : Senior Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh was unanimously elected Leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Manipur on Tuesday, and he could take oath as CM for a third consecutive term as early as Wednesday.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary P Shashikanta said 63-year-old Ibobi Singh was elected leader of the CLP at a meeting of the newly-elected legislators. The meeting was presided over by AICC General Secretary L Faleiro.

Congress sources said Ibobi Singh may be sworn in as chief minister on Wednesday.

The sources said the party high command decided to support Ibobi Singh, who was assisted by state Congress chief Gaikhangam for the Congress to win a two thirds majority in the 60-member House.

The Congress won 42 seats, one more than the required 41 for two thirds majority in the assembly.
