Dr. Pradeep K. Sinha, Director IIIT-NR, has been awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the field of Data Science and Information Technology by the Society for Data Science (S4DS). The award was announced yesterday during the valedictory session of the ‘International Conference on Data Management, Analytics & Innovation 2022 (ICDMAI 2022)’, held in virtual mode on January 15-16, 2022. Three other academicians and scientists who were conferred this award on the same platform for their exemplary contributions to the field are Dr. C P Ramanarayanan, Vice Chancellor, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune; Admiral RadhakrishnanHari Kumar, The Chief of the Naval Staff (India); and Professor Valentina E Balas, AurelVlaicu University, Arad, Romania.
The award is a recognition of the growing popularity of IIIT-NR nationally and internationally and the support provided by the State Government for its growth, said Dr. Sinha. I attribute this award to the hard work put in by the facultyand staff members of the institute as well as the students. Foreseeing the immense demand arising for experts in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence in the near future, Dr. Sinha played a vital role in introducing new B. Tech. and M. Tech. programs in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) in IIIT-NR, in the year 2019, making IIIT-NR one of the first institutes in the country to have such a program. Today, this branch of engineering is the most sought after branch among the students seeking admission in IIIT-NR.
Dr.Sinha has beendeeply involved in building IIIT-Naya Raipur as a premier academic institute of the country since 2015. Earlier he was with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), where he had led national programs in the areas of Supercomputing, Grid Computing, and Health Informatics.During his professional career spanning more than thirty-five years, Dr. Sinha has significantly contributed to the advancement of Science & Technology and Technical Education. His technical contributions include premier academic institutes, supercomputing systems and facilities, healthcare products and solutions, international patents, a number of technical papers, and six books in the area of Computer Science & Engineering.
