Kokrajhar : The indefinite strike by the Bodoland Students Union (BSU) at Bodoland University demanding appointment of a permanent Vice Chancellor in the university enters 6 day today.

The ongoing strike has affected the functioning of the university both academically and non-academically. Classes and official works have totally stopped due to the strike since the last six days.

The Bodoland University Teachers Association have expressed serious concern over the ongoing indefinite strike at the Bodoland University under the banner of Bodoland Students Union stating that the strike is affecting the functioning of the university both academically and non-academically as classes and official works have totally stopped due to the strike.

The  Bodoland University Teachers Association urged upon the state government of Assam and the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the University  to take up the issue seriously and give a welcoming solution so that the University would be able to maintain normal functioning.

The Bodoland University Teachers Association president Dr Jyotiraj Pathak and secretary Rustom Brahma said such strike badly affects the semester system because there is limited time frame for class transaction in a particular semester period which involves many internal activities too.

ABSU president Pramod Boro too expressed serious concern over the latest development in the University. He demanded immediate intervention of the Assam government to solve the issue and also urged the agitation group to rethink as it’s the students’ community who are suffering because of the strike.

The protesters have expressed displeasure over the re-appointment of existing Vice Chancellor Dr Hemanta Barua whose term has expired. The BSU members alleged that that there has been no developmental work undertaken by University authority during the five years tenure of existing VC Dr Hemanta Barua and demanded that the existing VC must be released and a new VC be appointed at the earliest.

The protesters also demanded filling up of vacant posts in both teaching and non-teaching departments.

Sources in the University said advertisement seeking nominations/ applications for the post of Vice- Chancellor has already been given.
