  • India beat England by 246 runs in 2nd cricket Test to take 1-0 lead in 5-match series

    New Delhi: India scripted a resounding 246-run win over England in the second cricket Test to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series riding on a superlative effort from the spin troika at Visakhapatnam.

    Chasing an improbable 405, England were bowled out for a paltry 158 in their second innings, shortly after the lunch break on the final day, to give the hosts their second biggest victory in terms of runs against the visitors.
    Resuming at their overnight 87 for two, England caved in without much resistance and lost the remaining eight wickets for an addition of only 71 runs.

    For India, Ravichandran Ashwin and debutant Jayant Yadav were the wreckers-in-chief claiming three wickets each. Mohammed Shami who took two for 30, was menacing when the ball reversed, and Ravindra Jadeja did his bit in the second innings providing important breakthroughs.
    Ashwin now has 231 wickets from 41 Tests apart from 1670 runs that includes 4 tons and 7 half-centuries.

    Skipper Virat Kohli who made 167 and 81 in his two innings was declared Man of the Match.

    India – 455 & 204
    England – 55 & 158 all out.

    India now lead the five-match series One-Nil. The third Test will begin at Mohali on November 26.
