India, China should pursue boundary issue as strategic objective: MEA

New Delhi said India and China should pursue the boundary issue as strategic objective.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that India is committed to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the issue.

He said early settlement of boundary issue is in the interest of the two countries.

Akbaruddin said Special Representatives of the two countries have held fifteen rounds of talks on the border issue so far.

He said they have arrived at political parameters and guiding principles for the resolution of the India-China boundary question.

He also added that the second phase of discussion is on which relates to the framework for the resolution of the boundary.

Reiterating India’s proposal of having clarification and confirmation on LAC in the India-China border areas pending the final settlement, the spokesperson said that if there are attempts to move that forward, New Delhi is ready on that because it was its proposal.

The Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will pay a State visit to India form 19th to 21th of this month at the invitation of Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

He will hold delegation level talks with Dr. Singh in New Delhi. Mr. Keqiang will also visit Mumbai and will address meeting of ASSOCHAM, FICCI and CII.
