  • India offers full support to Sri Lanka to deal with threat of Jihadi terrorism

    India has offered its full support to Sri Lanka in dealing with the common threat of Jihadi terrorism saying any threat to Sri Lanka is seen as a threat to India.

    This was stated by High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Taranjit Singh Sandhu after meeting the top Buddhist clergy in Kandy today.

    Addressing the media after his meeting, the High Commissioner said India stands firmly and strongly with Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the attacks on April 21st in which many innocent lives were lost including 11 Indian nationals.

    He said India will fight this jihadist ideology and jihadist terror together, shoulder to shoulder and assured India’s support for Sri Lanka.

    Earlier, he met and discussed the prevailing security situation with the Mahanayake Theros of Malwatte and Asgiriya chapters. Both the Mahanayake Theros deeply appreciated India’s unconditional and strong support for Sri Lanka including in the security sphere.

    The high commissioner conveyed greetings on the auspicious occasion of Vesak to the Theros and recalled the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka for the International Vesak Day celebration in 2017.
