President Ramnath Kovind has said that India and Tajikistan have agreed to further strengthen their Strategic Partnership. India will also offer a grant of 20 million US Dollar to Tajikistan for development projects.
On second day of his visit to the Central Asian Country, Mr Kovind today had a meeting with his Tajikistan counterpart Mr. Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe.
On this occasion, both countries signed MoUs in fields of political relations, strategic research, agriculture, renewable energy, traditional medicine, space technology, youth affairs, Culture and Disaster Management.
In a statement, Mr. Kovind said that there is enormous potential for bilateral cooperation and collaboration in the fields of defence, trade and investment, tourism, health and development partnership.
He said that India and Tajikistan remain determined to counter all forms of terrorism and violent extremism which are a grave threat to international peace and stability.
The President also thanked Tajikistan for their support to India’s membership to the Shanghai cooperation organization.
Later addressing the students at the Tajik National University in Dushanbe, President Kovind said that the war on terror and radicalization is not against any religion, and should never be. Quite on the contrary, it is against those who believe in destroying the creation of the Almighty.
Speaking on the topic of ‘Countering Radicalization: Challenges in Modern Societies’, Mr. Kovind said that Family plays an important role in preventing and countering radicalization of the youth.
He further added that in both countries family-based social structure is a guarantee against extremist ideas. Citing India’s example, President said that our religious leaders have also played a pivotal role in rejecting, condemning and countering the narrative of hate and terror.
Today, on the last day of his visit President is scheduled to meet many dignitaries including Prime Minister of Tajikistan Mr. Kohir Rasulzada.
