Mumbai : The Indian Cancer Society, a non-profit organization for cancer in India, took part in the Tata Mumbai Marathon on January 19, 2025. Those who participated in the Dream Run category included 30 young cancer victors and some employees of ICS.
The effort was primarily aimed at spreading the spirit of fighting cancer through the runners who demonstrated that despite having gone through cancer they could run the Marathon like any other person. Their spirit generated hope and positivity and spread the ICS message that good lifestyle, eschewing risk factors for cancer such as tobacco, and early detection through regular screening can help in staying two steps ahead of cancer raising awareness and educating people on the importance of screening and early cancer detection.
Apart from individual supporters a big push came from Kotak Securities and Raymonds. About 100 members from Raymonds and 130 members from Kotak securities ran for the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025 supporting Indian Cancer Society to raise awareness.
Commenting on this, Mrs. Usha Thorat, Managing Trustee – Indian Cancer Society said: “Cancer is a fight that has widespread impact on people, and more and more people need to be aware of cancer and need to be more conscious about self-care. Three major cancers, Oral, Cervical & Breast, can be easily detected through a simple screening process and as shown repeatedly, early detection leads to positive outcomes.
There is a need to create awareness, reduce fear about cancer among masses and increase positivity. I am extremely happy to see cancer victors taking part in the TATA Mumbai Marathon to promote this awareness of cancer and the critical role of early detection. The Marathon reflects the spirit for fighting cancer. It generates the positivity needed to stay ahead of cancer. The enthusiasm and spirit of the runners were very encouraging and it’s a true testimony of their courage and positivity.
Raymonds has been supporting ICS for select programs of cancer care continuum. This year Raymonds is celebrating their 100th year, and decided to support ICS in a unique way to raise awareness by participating Tata Mumbai Marathon 2025,
Comment by Raymonds spokesperson :”As we mark our 100th anniversary, we reflect on a century of progress, but more importantly, we celebrate the meaningful connections we’ve made with the communities we serve. This milestone isn’t just about our achievements, but about the lives we’ve touched along the way. Today, we are incredibly proud to support Indian Cancer Society, an organization that has been a beacon of hope for cancer patients and their families.
To honour this partnership and raise awareness about the ongoing fight against cancer, many of our employees have come together to run this marathon—not just as a team, but as a community of individuals who believe in making a real difference.
As we run, we carry with us the stories of the patients, the caregivers, and the families who inspire us to push forward. Together, we hope to raise awareness, show solidarity, and fuel the drive for progress in cancer research and care. Here’s to 100 years of making a difference, and too many more years of hope, compassion, and action.”
