Indian representative to Advocate Policies during the IPv4 to IPv6 Transition Phase

New Delhi:  CCAOI, the association responsible for promoting the “India Model-shared PCs” of Internet in the country, is glad to announce that their President, Mr. Naresh Ajwani has been re-elected as the “Number Council” – Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) & the Address Council-ICANN.

Naresh, who is currently the Chief – Regulatory & Corporate Affairs with Viom Networks Limited (WTTIL-Quippo) got 156 votes out of the 268 casted votes in the elections held at Gold Coast in Australia. Despite all odds viz., higher membership with Australia, them being the host country and hence having the advantage of presence of onsite registrants for their candidate, Naresh as Indian Internet community’s representative retained the re-representation in the Global Policy formulation bodies.

Undoubtedly, this achievement has come at the right time in view of the forthcoming transition from IPv4 to IPv6, a critical period for the Internet community. Policies related to Internet are crucial as India’s Internet Industry is poised to witness major action by the BWA players besides the rural plan to facilitate access in 250,000 villages. Currently, the issues related to IP address vary from handling of balance, return of IPv4 to mandated implementation of IPv6 and are being debated at the Global level. The need is to ensure India model policies for IPv4 to check its commercial exploitation, without being deterrent to the change of IPv6 and its advantages. “During this transition period from IPv4 to IPv6, now onwards each and every policy would be crucial” confirms Ajwani who should be playing a critical role in favour of India at this global platform.

The Address Council consists of 15 members elected by the Internet community from the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). Mr. Naresh Ajwani would be representing APNIC that represents 56 economies in the Asia Pacific. It needs to be mentioned that APNIC is an open, membership-based, not-for-profit organization providing Internet addressing services to the Asia Pacific. Voting in an NRO NC election is open to all members as well as all attendees at the APNIC meeting at which the election is held.
