  • Indian woman stabbing case: Aus police release CCTV footage

    Indians in Australia were driven back to painful memories of violent attacks on the community as an Indian IT professional was sydneykilled in an shocking incident in a Sydney subur; while the govt has expressed concern over the incident, police have so far ruled out a racist angle to the fatal attack.

    41-year-old Prabha Arun Kumar, an IT consultant was attacked at Amos Street in the western part of the city about 9.30 pm on Saturday. She was on the phone with her husband Arun Kumar, who lives in Bengaluru with their 10-year-old daughter, when she was stabbed. She was around 300 metres from her Westmead home when she was attacked.

    The CCTV footage released by the Australian police on Monday shows that the IT consultant walking from a train station just before she was stabbed.

    The External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has tweeted saying: “I am pained to know about murder of Prabha Arun Kumar in Sydney. Our Consulate is in touch with her Company there and we promise all help.”

    The Australian police said Prabha Arun was attacked with a sharp weapon, but they were yet to find whether the attack was random or targeted as the investigations are still on.
