Hyderabad: Expressing her views on the prolonged detention of Amway CEO, IDSA, Secretary General, Ms Chavi Hemanth, said, “While the Indian Government is showcasing a promising future, such incidents are a let-down for India in the global market”.
Ms Hemanth further added, “The release of the Amway CEO, Bill Pinckney certainly is a big relief but as an Industry we are still very anxious at such a long detainment. Harassment towards the industry needs to stop. IDSA has requested for specific timelines to the on-going amendments in the “The Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act, 1978” and a clear policy framework from the Modi Government”.
Speaking on the development Ajay Khanna, Chairman, IDSA, reiterated that Govt. needs to chart out a clear policy for the direct selling sector immediately and take it on a priority basis. There are various gaps of understanding at many levels about the business of direct selling mode of distribution.
Mr Khanna added that such incidents risked the future of lakhs of self employed working in the Direct Selling Industry. In India presently 60 Lakhs people are self-employed as per Annual Survey Report 2012-13 by PHD Chambers.
Mr Khanna said that IDSA has been proactively championing the cause of Direct Selling Industry in India since last many years and a separate legislation for the sector is a necessity for survival.
There is an immense need to provide an exhaustive regulatory framework to facilitate the different facets of direct selling industry which should last for many years and not be a temporary solution informs Ms Hemanth.
