Guwahati : India’s longest and Asia’s second longest rail-road bridge at Bogibeel will be opened for public in October this year. This was stated by Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal during an interaction with the reporters here via video conference on Monday. The bridge, which is expected to boost defence logistics along the border with China, will connect Dibrugarh in Assam to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh. Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had laid the foundation stone of the bridge way back in 2002. Since then, the inauguration of the bridge, which has been fashioned on a bridge that links Sweden and Denmark, has missed several deadlines. The Bogibeel bridge is one of the several major infrastructural projects to be set up in Assam in accordance with the Assam Accord of 1985. Bogibeel is the fourth rail-road bridge on the Brahmaputra river in Assam. The bridge is 4.94 km long and 32 metres above the water level of the Brahmaputra.
