  • Summer vacation at The Heritage School, Kolkata, has become synonymous with the Surya Jyoti Summer Camp starting from 9th May to 20th May, 2011,bringing with it a plethora of fun-filled activities, designed especially keeping the specific needs of children in mind. During this time, children can indulge in all those unique and interesting activities for which there is not much time in an otherwise packed academic schedule.

“The Suryajyoti Camp is not just meant for children of our own school, it is open to all. It provides an excellent platform for interaction with peer group and exchange of ideas,” says principal Seema Sapru. Adds vice-principal Meenakshi Atal: “We were one of the first schools in Kolkata to start the concept of summer camp, because we wanted children to spend quality time during the holidays. At times, working parents find it difficult to engage children in activities when the schools remain closed. We have tried to cater to this need.”  This year, the camp will be held from May 9-20 (13, 14 and 15 will be holidays). “Summer is the time for water sports,” said PR & activities coordinator, Sanchita Raha, who has been designing the camp for the past six years since its inception.

This year, the camp will include water sports like zorbing and rolling, outdoor sports like football, sumo wrestling, trampoline, paint ball as well as adventure sports like rock climbing and rappelling. The theme for indoor activities is ‘science’. Apart from the other activities, students will be making scientific models, which will be a hands-on application of what they learn in class.

The camp, open to students from Class II onwards will be divided into categories according to the age groups. The school will provide for all materials, transport, breakfast and snacks. The camp timings will be from 8 am to 11.30 am. The camp will be conducted in the sprawling campus promises to be a treat for students of all age groups.
