Haflong : With the theme ‘Our Biodiversity, Our Food, Our Health, International Day for Biological Diversity was observed at District Library Auditorium, Haflong with great enthusiasm on Wednesday.
Nojit Kemprai, MAC, N C Hills Autonomous Council attended the event as the chief guest while Sri A.K. Johari, IFS, Special, PCCF & Member Secretary, Assam State Bio-Diversity Board, Assam, Deputy Commissioner, Amitabh Rajkhowa, Superintendent of Police Srejeeth T, CCF M Tungnung, Secretary Planning T T Daolagupu, DFO Ramen Das, DFO N K Jeme , Secretary, Saindesh Ardao etc attended the event.
The day’s programme started with Lighting of the Lamp followed by felicitation of the Guests and Welcome Song by Sound Wave School.
Dr Sarbojit Thaosen, Associate Professor of Zoology, Haflong Govt. College, Sri B.C.Langthasa, Retd., DCF, Haflong, Sri Dinesh Tiwari, Professor, Haflong Govt College
attended the event as the resource persons and guest speaker.
All the speakers explained the meaning of Biological Diversity while stressing importance of sustainable exploitation of natural resources and requested the authority concerned to look into. They appealed the masses to rethink, reuse, and recycle and not to waste natural resources.
Chief guest Nojit Kemprai, MAC, N C Hills Autonomous Council in his speech said the present executive committee of NCHAC is very keen for the conservation of nature and proposed for medicinal garden in Dima Hasao to the attending Forest High ups who also assured to take up the proposal.
This was followed by Modern song with a theme of nature conservation in Dimasa by Sound wave Music School,Release of Brochure Biodiversity for Sustenance” and
Distribution of Prizes to the participants of drawing and essay competition held earlier.
Earlier M. Tungnung, CCF, Dima Hasao in his welcome speech appreciated the efforts of Sri A.K. Johari, IFS, Special, PCCF & Member Secretary, Assam State Bio-Diversity Board, Assam for choosing Haflong to hold such mega event for the first time. He also accorded warm welcome to all the participants, guests including the media person.
DFO, West Division N K Jeme offering thanks to all the participants, guests and others who have helped the forest department said their efforts to make the event a grand success could not be compensate with some mere words.
