As a leading manufacturer and supplier of solar panels and storage solutions, Jinko Solar has made it its mission to optimize the global energy portfolio and take responsibility for a sustainable future. Focusing on the innovation and importance of green energy, the company continues to support a variety of large-scale projects that are accelerating the transition to renewable alternatives.
Collaborations with Neom, Athens International Airport, the World Bank, and more, Jinko Solar remains a leading light on the path to sustainability.
Neom Green Hydrogen Plant
With Jinko Solar’s recently announced contract with Larsen & Toubro, the duo will supply Neom — the massive Saudi Arabian urban land development intended to be run entirely on renewables — with 1 gigawatt of solar modules to power the Green Hydrogen Project currently under construction in the developing, floating industrial port city of Oxagon, Saudi Arabia.
This initiative illuminates Jinko Solar’s continued commitment to engaging in innovative and sustainable projects worldwide and supports the Green Hydrogen Project’s goal of being “the world’s largest utility-scale, commercially based hydrogen facility powered entirely by renewable energy.”
Once completed in 2026, the project will produce a whopping 600 metric tons of clean hydrogen per day that can be converted into ammonia as a clean fuel source for industries and vehicles. This energy use will offset 5 million metric tons of CO2 each year, leading Saudi Arabia toward its Vision 2030 goal of embracing sustainability and reducing its oil dependency.
“In line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, Jinko Solar’s contribution in this project goes beyond supplying modules — it’s about leading technological innovation and environmental sustainability,” the company wrote on its Facebook page. “Our 1GWp Tiger Neo N-Type TOPCon modules represent cutting-edge technology, strengthening our role in partnerships to create a cleaner and brighter future for all.”
Athens International Airport
About 975 million international tourists visited airports from January to September 2023 alone, with the National Bureau of Economic Research reporting that airports are among the largest sources of pollution in the United States.
Athens International Airport in Greece is one travel hub working to mitigate the impacts of air travel and set the standard for sustainability within the aviation industry. The airport is committed to producing net-zero carbon emissions by 2025 and is using green energy and the help of Jinko Solar to achieve its mission.
In partnership with Greek construction company Kiefer Tek, Jinko Solar will supply the airport with its large-scale battery storage solution SunTera. SunTera is known to offer a 25% higher energy density compared to traditional energy storage solutions, improving the airport’s energy-saving capabilities and aiding it in becoming the first in the world to 100% self-supply the power for its operations.
Frank Niendorf, Jinko Solar’s European general manager, commented, “This emblematic project is the first utility-scale storage system to be installed in connection with photovoltaic system awarded in Greece and we are excited to embark on this journey with a partner like Kiefer, whose dedication to green transition through innovation aligns perfectly with our own vision, to take responsibility for enabling a sustainable future by providing a one-stop solution for clean energy”
Witznitz Solar Park
To support Europe’s transition to renewable energy, Jinko Solar has supplied over 1.1 million of its flagship Tiger Neo modules to the Witznitz Solar Park in Lobstädt, Saxony, Germany — the current largest operational solar plant in all of Europe.
With Jinko Solar’s contribution, the plant possesses a 650-megawatt module capacity and is expected to deliver 0.6 terawatt hours of electricity per year, enough to power around 200,000 homes annually. The park was developed atop 1,200 acres of the former Witznitz II open-cast brown coal mine, circumventing 250,000 tons of CO2 yearly.
“Rapidly expanding green energy production in Germany and Europe is the only way forward to sustainably increase electricity supply and to lower carbon emissions,” Niendorf said in a press release.
As a leading global supplier and manufacturer of solar modules, Jinko Solar remains uniquely positioned to take on projects of this scale and is the first company in the world to surpass 230 gigawatts of worldwide module shipments, accounting for 1 out of every 8 panels installed on Earth.
Light Up Africa
With over 640 million Africans lacking access to electricity, the World Bank’s Light Up Africa initiative seeks to provide sub-Saharan Africa with affordable, clean, and efficient energy and electricity.
To support this goal, Jinko Solar has supplied the Central African Republic with 25 megawatts of modules to develop a solar park that aids the country’s grid stability and addresses its issues with energy shortages. With the World Bank reporting that only 16% of the country has access to electricity, this solar park — located in Danzi village, 18 kilometers (about 11 miles) outside the capital city of Bangui — will supply electricity to 250,000 capital residents, nearly doubling the country’s total capacity for electrical generation.
“We are proud to support the World Bank’s ‘Light Up Africa’ initiative and provide reliable clean energy solutions to the Central African Republic,” stated Jaffer Wang, Jinko Solar’s general manager of sub-Saharan Africa. “This project exemplifies our commitment to empowering communities with sustainable energy and driving the global transition toward a greener future.”
Jinko Solar: Empowering a Renewable Future
As global energy prices continue to rise, and extreme heat and weather events leave us more susceptible to power outages and grid failure, companies like Jinko Solar are leading the large-scale transition to renewable energy to ensure worldwide access to reliable, affordable, and clean energy options.
With these projects, Jinko Solar continues to empower a renewable future and shed light on the importance of innovative approaches to sustainability.
As Dany Qian, Jinko’s vice president, puts it, “With our corporate mission to ‘optimize the energy portfolio and take responsibility for enabling a sustainable future’, Jinko Solar continues to contribute to the adoption of renewable energy and promote sustainable development. As a company, we are ready to flourish in a world where opportunities and challenges coexist.”
