    The weatherman has forecast light to moderate rain or snow over a few places in the state.

    The authorities On Tuesday issued a warning to the residents living in low-lying, flood-prone areas and hillside villages.

    In another development the Srinagar-Jammu national highway was thrown open for vehicular one way traffic on Tuesday, after remaining closed for the past three days.

    The sky remained overcast, but the receding waters of the jhelum did bring some ray of hope to the residents of Kashmir.

    As the rainfall stopped and the surge receded, the people’s worst nightmares subsided and the valley heaved a sigh of relief.

    A day after the state govt in jammu and Kashmir declared the state flood- hit.

    However, the danger is not completely over. According to MET officials , the disturbances may result in medium to heavy rainfall in the state in next three days.

    In Srinagar, the state irrigation and fire service department have begun the de-watering process.

    Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assessed the flood situation and said that situation is not as grave as last year and that authorities are on alert to deal with any situation.

    The centre has stepped in with a grant of Rs 200 crores as immediate relief, Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed said in the Assembly that the state government has sanctioned Rs 25 crore for Kashmir and Rs 10 crore for Jammu region which has also been affected by the floods.

    State government is also relieved that the forecast is not very worrisome.

    Meanwhile, centre is monitoring the situation on a continuous basis. Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi who had been deputed to assess the situation in the state submitted his report to the Prime Minister.

    He also briefed the PM about the rescue and relief operations being carried out in the state.

    Centre has also assured all possible help to the state in tackling the threat.

    the NDRF is also assessing the situation and ready for a rapid response in case the situation warrants it.

    There were fears that the latest deluge may impact the inflow of tourists just before the season begins, the receding waters have also brought down anxiety levels of the tourists who are currently in the valley.

    On the flip side though, the death toll in the flash floods has touched 16, most casualties being in Budgam where four houses had collapsed due to landslides on Monday .

    NDRF teams are inspecting low lying areas to rescue those trapped by the deluge. Even as life limps back to normal.
