Kochi: The Joyalukkas Group has donated advanced medical equipment worth ₹50 lakh to the Department of Gastroenterology at Ernakulam General Hospital as part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility initiatives. The equipment was formally handed over at a function inaugurated by Hibi Eden, Member of Parliament. Dr. Joy Alukkas, Chairman and Managing Director of the Joyalukkas Group, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Ernakulam General Hospital is the first general hospital in Kerala to introduce a dedicated Gastroenterology Department.
Addressing the gathering, Hibi Eden, MP, emphasised that in the backdrop of rising medical expenses, strengthening and improving the efficiency of the government healthcare sector is imperative. He noted that meaningful support from responsible corporate institutions can help achieve significant milestones in public healthcare. He further stated that the initiative by the Joyalukkas Group would substantially benefit the common public.
Dr. Joy Alukkas, Chairman and Managing Director, Joyalukkas Group, stated that the Group has. consistently undertaken impactful interventions in the healthcare sector. Marking World Cancer Day, he announced the launch of a project aimed at supporting 1,000 cancer patients. He also revealed that steps are being initiated to establish a charitable hospital in Thrissur dedicated to the treatment of pediatric cancer.
Following a direct assessment of the hospital’s requirements, Dr. Joy Alukkas assured that an additional ₹50 lakh would be allocated for procuring the remaining equipment needed for the Gastroenterology Department. The department has been equipped with advanced medical systems imported from England.
During the ceremony, Dr. Paulose George, a senior Gastroenterologist who concluded a distinguished 30-year medical career in London and returned to India to serve in the government sector free of cost, was felicitated. The event was presided over by Ernakulam MLA Shri T.J. Vinod. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Shahirsha R., RMO Dr. Ameera, Dr. Paulose George, Chief Nursing Officer Renuka C.C., HDS members, and other dignitaries were present.
