Forfurs is a premium pet accessory brand that has its origins deep-seated in India. As a homegrown brand, all Forfurs products are handcrafted by local artisans, based in Kanpur. The brand celebrated India’s 72nd Republic Day by bringing to light the stories of our unsung and valiant pups who serve our country fiercely.
It is a small step to ensure that we take a moment to pause and thank our K-9 soldiers for their loyal services and for doing their bit to ensure that we, as Indian citizens can sleep at night peacefully, and completely at ease.
In its latest social media campaign, the Brand salutes the courage these dogs show by recovering ammunitions, or locating explosives among many other challenging tasks. The stories of such furry soldiers will be shared on social media mentioning their sizable contribution to the country along with their images.
Some of these K9 recruits have been responsible for some dangerous tasks like sniffing out ammunitions and explosives, clearing out helipads for dignitaries and also guarding the royal families. Alex, a majestic golden Labrador, was put on duty to guard the Bhutanese King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck after an attempt was made to take his life. He is from RVC, Meerut. Alex managed to pick up the assassin’s scent and ran miles through the forest to catch him. The assassin was caught and the king rewarded Alex with ₹1,000, his own gold ring and a certificate of honour. There are many such stories that we never get to hear. However, they do exist abundantly.
“Dogs are the most loyal and selfless creatures, I believe. When I heard some of these stories, they inspired me greatly. There are novels, songs and poems that are written for the gallantry of our soldiers and yet the contribution of a K-9 goes unheard. I wanted to talk about such stories and to start a conversation centred around the fact that dogs are not just strays or pet, some are soldiers too,” says Vanya Chandel, Founder of Forfurs.
