Commenting on the festival, Dev r Nil said, “This first of a kind pop festival organized by Kaji brings about a totally different shopping experience to a buyer and admirer of pop art. The eye-catching and unusual collection is just the thing for the young generation. The combination of collection brought together by Kaji speaks about their taste of putting together the right mix of fashion and lifestyle in form of pop.” Pop art has been an object of high interest among connoisseurs and recently its popularity has increased many folds. Abbreviation of Popular Art, the Pop Art movement used common everyday objects to portray elements of popular culture, primarily images in advertising and television. The term Pop art was first used by English critic, Lawrence Alloway in 1958 in an edition of Architectural Digest. Pop art is an art movement that emerged in the mid 1950s in Britain and in the late 1950s in the United States. Pop art challenged tradition by asserting that an artist’s use of the mass-produced visual commodities of popular culture is contiguous with the perspective of fine art. Kaji’s three day long exhibition on Pop Art festival has pioneered the gathering of a number of well known international and national brands dealing with fashion garments, pop art, home décor and as well as home accessories like never before. This exhibition showcases brands like Nida Mehmood; Vineeta Nair; Pop goes the Art, Pop-Att, Happily Unmarried, Iktaara, Yellow Submarine etc. The fashion section of Kaji is none the less with names with the likes of RMX JOSS; Pooja Shroff; Aphrodite; Street Couture; Him Her & the apple; Tungs 10 along with shoes by Rohan Arora. The three day long Pop Art fest would also be a visual treat for its spectators as home décor and accessory products would be displayed by international labels as Baci Milano; Undergrowth Design; Seletti and more. Famed clock brands like Zerothreeseven, Diamentini & Domencioni is also present with their share of products to mesmerize the audience to the fullest.
Keeping in mind the mix of audiences and art aficionados from all sections of the society Kaji has stored products for everyone. The price range starts from a mere few hundreds and rises up to quite a few thousands. What would attract a kolkatan to this unique fest are not only the wonderful collection of apparels and pop art products but also a number of other activities arranged. Apart from an interactive photography workshop held by Kaustav Saikia, a retro music and an ecstatic saxophone performance are also something to look forward to.
Pop Art once used to make commentary on contemporary society and culture, particularly consumerism, by using popular images and icons and incorporating and re-defining them in the art world. Often subjects were derived from advertising and product packaging, celebrities, and comic strips. But in the modern era Pop art is just another potent medium to communicate style and taste. Kaji’s Pop art festival is sure to offer the art aware kolkatans a better understanding of this novel medium of fashion.
