  • Karnataka CM to Seek A Second Trust Vote In The Week In State Assembly Today

    Published on October 14, 2010

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will seek a second trust vote within 4 days in the state Assembly today. Speaker K G Bopaiah has convened a session of the House at 11 am for the state government to prove its majority. The second trial of strength for Mr Yeddyurappa, who won a controversial trust vote on Monday, comes following Governor HR Bhardwaj’s offer for a fresh vote.

But in a new twist to the political crisis, the Karnataka High Court has ruled that the outcome of today’s floor test in the Assembly will be subject to its verdict on the disqualification of MLAs. AIR correspondent reports that the disqualified MLAs–11 of BJP and five Independents–will not be able to participate in the floor test.

The court has reserved orders on the petition of the 11 disqualified BJP MLAs till Monday when it will also hear the pleas of Independents.

The High Court rejected both the pleas of the five Independent MLAs for staying their disqualification and allowing them to vote in sealed covers to be kept with the Registrar of the Court.

The order by a Division Bench, headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar came in the wake of the urgent interim applications filed by the independent MLAs.

Meanwhile, an Independent MLA Vardhur Prakash has joined BJP.
