Karnataka HC to hear petition of 5 independents MLAs Today

The Karnataka High Court will commence on Monday the final hearing on the petition filed by five independent MLAs challenging their disqualification from the State Assembly.

They were disqualified by Assembly Speaker K G Boppaiah along with 11 BJP MLAs for anti party activities on 10th October just before the first floor test of Yeddyurappa government.

Just a day before the second floor test on 14th October, the court ruled that the outcome of the trust vote of the B S Yeddyurappa Government will be subject to its final decision on this petition.

The BJP government has won the second vote of confidence with 106 members supporting it, while 100 votes were cast against the confidence motion. The Speaker did not cast his vote.

This means that even if the five independent MLAs get legal reprieve, the government will continue to have the numbers in its favour.

The High Court has also reserved its order on the petitions filed by 11 rebel BJP MLAs, challenging their disqualification by the Speaker.
