  • Key accused in Gorkha League prez’s murder case flees from custody

    Nicol Tamang, main accused in the murder of All India Gorkha League president Madan Tamang, on Sunday escaped from CID custody in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district, police said.

    Tamang was arrested on 16th August and kept in CID custody at Pintal village near Siliguri after he was produced in Darjeeling district court the next day, Superintendent of Police, Darjeeling, Debendra Pratap Singh said.

    Tamang escaped on the pretext of going to toilet on Sunday morning, he added.

    Search operations had been launched to nab the fugitive, he said, adding nobody had been suspended in this connection as yet.

    Madan Tamang was murdered on 21st May while supervising arrangements for a meeting of the All India Gorkha League at Darjeeling town.
