  • KIMS celebrates Padmashri Dr S Sahariah’s 1000 Kidney Transplant surgeries at the Hospital

    Hyderabad: Under the able guidance of renowned Nephroplogist Padmashri Dr.Sarbeswar Sahariah, the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospitals, Secunderabadhas achieved a remarkable milestone by successfully completing 1000 kidney transplant surgeries, at a single unit. KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad has thus become the only hospital unit to achieve this feat in the country.

    And to celebrate this rare achievement, KIMS has organized a one-day conference on the past, present, and future of transplant surgeries in India, under the aegis of the Institute of Renal Sciences.

    Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhaskar Rao, MD, KIMS Hospitals, said, “We are immensely proud to achieve this new medical milestone. Completing 1000 kidney transplants – this progress shows just how far KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad has come in providing advanced medical services which enable patients to receive the very best care. We would like to congratulate, Dr S. Sahariah and his team. We have best success rates and we have been doing the both living and deceased donor Transplant programme for many years.

    Thanking everyone for their wishes, Dr SarbeswarSahariah said, “We are proud to have completed 1000 cases at this unit. This success is possible only because of the faith and courage shown by our patients and continuous support for all the departments. It will be our constant endeavour to further help people to have better access to quality and affordable transplantation at our centre.

    Dr SarbeswarSahariah is a Padma Shree Awardee (2014) and Chief Transplant Urologist, Sr. Consultant Kidney Transplantation, KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad. He received training in the field of Organ Transplantation at the Post Graduate Medical Institute, Chandigarh and was involved in the programme since its inception in the year 1973. Dr Sahariah has so far performed more than 3000 Kidney Transplant operations at various centres in the country, this includes more than 1300 operations performed at Mahavir Hospital & Research Centre, Hyderabad, which is a charitable organization and 1000 operations performed at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad. He has performed nearly 200 cadaver kidney transplantations (kidneys removed from brain dead donors) at Hyderabad which is one of the largest series by a single surgeon in the country. Also performed end block Renal Transplantation from an 18-month-old cadaver donor considered to be the youngest cadaver donor in the country. He successfully transplanted two kidneys from a 78-year-old cadaver donor considered to be the eldest cadaver donor in the country.

    The eminent panel in the conference spoke about Changes in CKD scenarios in India during last decade; Transplant scenario in Telangana – Past, Present & Future along with topics like making organ transplant an affordable and new insights in the organ transplantation. The conference concluded with felicitation of Dr S. Sahariah on successful completion of over 1000 kidney transplants at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad.

Reddy KIMS Hospitals Spoke on ‘ 1000 kidney Transplants at KIMS Hospitals’, Dr. Swarnalatha Apollo Hospitals Spoke on ‘ Analysis of Post  Transplant Graft Biopsy’, Dr. Srinivas Prabhu Chava KIMS Hospitals Spoke on ‘ Liver Transplant Scenario in Telangana’, Dr. Sambit Sahu, KIMS Hospitals spoke on ‘Deceased donor Transplant Program at KIMS Hospitals’.
