~ 36-year-old-man from Uttarakhand is now free of continuous seizures, returning to a normal life ~

Thiruvananthapuram : Thiruvananthapuram KIMSHEALTH successfully treated a 32-year-old man from Uttarakhand struggling with continuous seizures for the past seven years. The young man is now returning to a normal life from a state of seizures that recurred two or three times a week severely affecting the mobility of the arms and legs. A team of neurosurgeons led by Senior Consultant, Dr. Ajith R performed a rare deep brain surgery to remove the originating point of the seizures.

It was after the treatment at various hospitals in Raipur, Delhi, Bombay, Visakhapatnam, Chennai and Bangalore, the patient and his family got admitted to KIMSHEALTH. It was challenging and complicated to find the originating point of seizures. The source of the epilepsy was diagnosed through the MRI scan and continuous EEG monitoring and the surgery was performed.

The surgery which lasted for 5 hours was performed with extreme precautions so as not to affect the surrounding areas of the brain and the critical structures, said Dr. Ajith R. Also he added that it was the joint effort of the Consultant Neurosurgeons, Dr. Navas 

N.S, Dr. Bobby Iype, Dr. Abu Madan, Consultant Neurologist, Dr Rejit Ramanan Pillai and Consultant Anesthetist, Dr Sushant B which made this feat possible. The Department of Neurosurgery at KIMSHEALTH is one of the few centers in India to perform such complex surgeries.
