From 2019, JEE Main will be conducted in two phases, the first for Admissions to B.E./ B.Tech(Paper-1) & B. Arch/ B. Planning (Paper-2)from 6th Jan to 20th Jan 2019 and the second phase for admissions to B.E./ B.Tech (Paper-1)& B. Arch/ B. Planning (Paper-2)between 6th April to 20th April 2019. The result will however consider the students performance in the best of the two phases. After being taken over by NTA, there will be no major impact as far as the pattern of the examination is concerned. The exam will have the same papers as conducted by the CBSE until last year.

 

Except for the exam mode, the pattern remains unchanged. Paper 1 will be completely held in computer based mode, and in paper 2, Mathematics and Aptitude test will be computer based whereas Drawing will be pen-and-paper based. All the multiple choice questions will carry 4 marks each for the right answer and negative marking of 1 mark for incorrect answer.

 

In JEE Main paper 1, 30 MCQ’s will be asked from each subject (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) making it a total of 90 questions. The question paper will be available in English, Hindi and Gujarati (for students of Gujarat, Daman & Diu and Nagarhaveli). Paper 1 will be conducted in 2 sessions per day and the candidates will be allotted slots.

 

Paper 2 includes a total of 82 questions. 30 MCQ’s in Mathematics section, 50 from Aptitude and 2 questions will be asked from drawing test. All the MCQ’s carry 4 marks each (with -1 negative marking) and each drawing test question carries 35 marks.

Modifications made by NTA for JEE Main 2019

 

1. Early Mock Tests – NTA has started student registration for JEE Main mock tests from September 1, 2018. Candidates will be able to practice with these tests to get a better understanding of the exam pattern, how to prepare and what to expect in the actual exam.
2. Common Service Centres (CSCs) – The authorities have set up 1.5 lakh CSCs across the country to help candidates in both urban and rural areas in application form filling and submission.
3. Age limit – The criteria of age limit has been removed from JEE Main 2019. Candidates who have passed their 10+2 in 2017, 2018 or are appearing in 2019 can apply for the exam, irrespective of their age.
4. More than one attempt – JEE Main 2019 will be held twice a year – the first time in January and the second time in April. Candidates can choose to appear for either one or both.
5. Revised Application fees – The application fees have been reduced for different categories for JEE Main 2019.
6. Mode of Test – JEE Main 2019 will be a computer-based test for Paper 1; however, for Paper 2, Mathematics and Aptitude will be in computer-based mode and Drawing will be in pen and paper mode. Paper 1 will be in two shifts per day, whereas, paper 2 will be in one shift only.

 

JEE Main 2018 is around the corner and every aspiring student should brush up the entire syllabus with quick revision to a plan. Qualifying and scoring high is necessary to get college and branch of your choice. But it is very important to know what to study and how to study in less time.

 

• 1.   Attempt online mock tests – Take up adequate no. of Mock Online JEE through a well-known source in case you have registered for JEE in Online format.

Rigorous revision and attempting several mock tests will help them get thorough with optimum preparation of all three subjects and concept clarification and keep them well updated with the current trend and pattern of JEE Mains exam. Taking Mock Test and having a real-time analysis have been found to be quite useful and students tend to learn from the mistakes and hence avoid repeating same on the D-Day.

2. Systemized revision plan – Make a systematic plan for revision and follow it strictly. This will help them in enhancing clarity both concept wise as well as chapter wise. Systematic approach towards proper revision plan will help students improve

their performance and rank.

3. Be updated with the pattern – Most likely 30 questions from each subject will be asked with equal weightage to all three subjects and hence selective study is never recommended. In mathematics, more attention should be given to calculus and algebra. Electromagnetism and mechanics in physics cover most of the proportion of questions asked in the mains. And as per the previous trend more questions are expected from physical and organic chemistry.
4. Be prepared for complicated questions- There is no harm in being ready to face the questions which can be tricky. And if the concepts are clear, going through the question twice will get answers. Most of the students undergo stress in the following questions –

• Questions related to Match the following.
• Depending on the pattern, few questions on statement and assertion                 may show up.
• Few questions may have tricky options with deviation from normal trend.

5. Focus on managing time – Plan your study by keeping in mind the available time left before exams. If you had cultivated habit of noting main points while studying, that will help you in later quick revisions.

Spending too much time on questions that you are uncomfortable with will lead to time scarcity to solve the easy ones and hence while practicing mock tests focus should also be given to the problem-solving ability. Right strategy along with time management plays a pivotal role in deciding the exam results. So, practice enough to be quick to adapt to the level of the paper and act promptly.

6. Focus on Revision:Don’t do anything new that you have not done in the last          one or two years. Just do some questions or revise formulae/scientific names etc. that you have done before.
7. Resolve your doubts:Always clear your doubts from teachers, mentors, peers.  Don’t hesitate in asking questions. It is a good habit as no matter what, asking questions will always clear your doubts.
8. Set Your Goals –Outline your chapters subject wise which need to be revised. Make further small and self-written/flagged notes for you to revise before 2 to 3 days of JEE Main Exams.
9. Be happy and stay calm- Stay focused and repeatedly tell yourself that you can do it. Keep a check on your sleep pattern. Be an early riser.

10.Use your internet time – Interact with your friends, teachers. Read blogs, forums of Ex-IITians. Ask questions and help your friends. Make your preparation interesting.

 

Points to remember while taking the JEE Main Exam:

 

• Remember, in JEE (Main)-CBT the correct options are submitted by click of the mouse. It is important that questions be attempted in a sequence to remember your order of attempting the questions. It is advisable to take several Mock Test papers in Computer Based Mode for JEE (Main) original Exam.

 

• One must scroll the screen to check if all questions are appearing on the screen before starting to attempt the questions.

 

• As all pages can be viewed through a tab on the top right side of the screen, select the subject you wish to take up first and ensure to click on the right option and save the option immediately. One must be careful to submit the paper only after all the questions in respective subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics have been dealt with.

 

• Attempt the exam in 2 rounds trying to attempt the easier questions first and then keeping time for the tricky ones.

 

• Attempting questions in the order of ease of doing them, where ease depends upon both the ability to solve a question and time taken to solve it.

Do’s for JEE Main 2019

• Carefully scroll through the entire question paper on the computer screen in the first 5-10 minutes.
• Attempt easy questions first. Choose sections that have less risk and more gain.
• Double check before selecting the right option on the screen.

Don’ts for JEE Main 2019

• Don’t start from question you don’t know.
• Don’t get upset if any section is tough. You can score in other sections.
• Don’t guess if you have no idea about the concept involved in a question.
• Don’t be nervous if you find the paper tough, since it is the relative performance that counts. Hence, put your best analytical mind to work, it will take you ahead.
