  • Left to go with Congress in West Bengal

    Published on February 12, 2016

Kolkata : In West Bengal, all the partners of the Left Front are in favour of having an electoral alliance with Congress to fight the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. State Left Front chairman, Biman Bose said this after a Front meet in Kolkata yesterday.

All the partners have agreed in favour of initiating a dialogue with Congress in this regard, he said. The CPI-M senior leader said that talks may be held over this in case the Congress gives a proposal. He did not clarify whether the CPI-M or the Front will make a proposal for talks to Congress. Mr. Bose also said the CPI-M is discussing this with some other political outfits outside the Left Front.

Of late, most of the senior CPI-M leaders in West Bengal have been advocating an electoral understanding with the Congress to dislodge ruling Trinamul Congress.

The faction riddled state unit of the Congress has hitherto stood divided on the issue of forging alliance with left parties. However, majority of the state leaders have moved the party high command in favour of going with the CPI-M.
