Russian Business Software Alliance (BSA) filed a lawsuit against South Korean company LG in Russia for allegedly using pirate software programs, Prime-Tass news agency reported Wednesday.
The licence for the software belonged to several BSA members, Alliance chairwoman Ekaterina Gromova said.
According to the BSA, LG used a substantial number of unlicensed software programs at virtually every computer seized in the company’s office in Moscow.
Russia’s Interior Ministry reported Wednesday this was the first time a lawsuit had been launched against a large transnational company for using a piece of pirate software. The investigation allegedly found more than 60 employees of the LG office used the software. Police seized 44 computers and 17 laptops with the pirate programs installed.
According to the ministry, the damage incurred amounted to more than 2 million rubles (about 65,600 U.S. dollars).
