  • Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita bereaved

    Mangaldai : Renu Kalita -mother of Additional Director General (Ceremonial and Welfare) in Army Headquarters in New Delhi Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita is no more. According to an information received from his close circles here, this humble and pious lady breathed her last at about 7.30 pm on April 23 at the residence of eldest son Ranendra Kalita at Christianbasti in Guwahati. She was 82.

    Born to the family of Basi Ram Deka and Pabitra Deka of Chamarkuchi near Borbhag in Nalbari district as the second of three children, she tied her nuptial knot with Jogendra Kalita- a Rangiya based teacher of high reputation of North Kamrup area in 1955. As a humble housewife and a loving mother with due care, she was successful in moulding and shaping her eldest son Ranendra Kalita as an Executive Engineer in Brahmaputra Board and the youngest son Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita to choose his career in the army. Both the daughters were also got married to two successful persons in their respective field. Late Renu Kalita after the demise of her husband mostly concentrated on various social and religious activities. Though her illness compelled her to stay in Guwahati, she always was interested to visit Rangiya.

    This morning the mortal remains of this pious lady and a successful and caring mother was brought to her residence at Rangiya town. A large number of mourners, relatives and office bearers of several organizations immediately rushed there to offer their last homage.

    Later in presence of her both the sons including Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita and other relatives, the mortal remain was consigned into flames at the public crematorium at Rangiya as per the vedic rituals.

    Members of Mangaldai Media Circle has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the demise of late Renu Kalita and condoled her bereaved family members. Adviser of Mangaldai Media Circle Bhargab Kumar Das also rushed to Rangiya to pay last respect and to condole her demise
