    IAS exam is one of the most popular as well as toughest exams in India. Henceforth, becoming an IAS officer is also one of the most challenging tasks for a candidate. Many people have a dream to become an IAS, but everyone cannot succeed.

    IAS is one of those jobs that carry a lot of weight and charisma among all other administrative jobs under the Indian government. Being an IAS officer is a life full of responsibility, excellent salaries, power and recognition.

    Here we will share an insight into the life of an IAS officer after cracking the IAS exam.

    IAS Exam: Daily Life of an IAS Officer at LBSNAA

    “Genius is 1% talent and 99% percent hard work.” Pure hard work is all one needs to crack the IAS exam. After cracking the exam, students undergo training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA). Cracking the IAS exam is one thing, and subsequent training at LBSNAA is another.

    Life at LBSNAA is rigorous and disciplined for the trainees. The trainees have to wake up early in the morning for the training. The whole day schedule at LBSNAA is shown below:

Cracking the IAS exam is one thing, and subsequent training at LBSNAA is another.

    Life at LBSNAA is rigorous and disciplined for the trainees. The trainees have to wake up early in the morning for the training. The whole day schedule at LBSNAA is shown below:

    All the trainees have to wake up at 6:00 AM for their training.

    Then trainees have to do morning exercise and go for horse riding activity for an hour (6:00 AM to 7:00 AM).

    Then there is a break of two hours for the morning activities like bathing and other natural activities (7:00 AM to 9:00 AM).

    Then from 9:30 AM onwards, they have to do academic activities for 8 to 10 hours. Academic activities include attending – Lectures, Sports, Tracking, Tour of Indian History, Social Works, Visiting and Recognizing Lifestyle of Rural areas, and many others.

    So, the schedule starts from 6:00 AM and ends at 9:00 PM after doing all the activities.

    Career Prospect of an IAS Officer

    The Actual Career path begins after two years of passing the UPSC IAS Exam. Those two years involve gruelling training of the candidates. Then the actual career starts.

    In Phase 1, candidates have to take training at LBSNAA.

    The candidates have to take training at the district level, which is allotted at the time of training.

    Then in Phase 2, one has to go to LBSNAA for a mission that is conducted abroad.

    Then one has to work as Assistant Secretary under the central government.

    After that, one gets the opportunity to work as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Joint Magistrate or Sub Collector.

    After that, an IAS officer gets to work as Municipal Commissioner or District Development Officer(DDO).

    After being a Municipal Commissioner, it is time to be a Collector for the IAS officer.

    After that, the incumbent can work as an Additional Secretary of State Government.

    Finally, one can become Chief Secretary of the State and subsequently Cabinet Secretary under the Indian government.

    Power of an IAS Officer

    As an IAS Officer, one has various powers to control the crimes and Government problems, Financial problems of the country, etc. Various powers of an IAS Officer are listed below.

    To maintain law and order in the country, the government gives power to the Magistrates under the Code of Criminal Procedure (1973): 107,108,109,110,133,144,176.

    The National Disaster Management Act gives the Chief Secretary and Magistrate powers to decide when any natural or human-made disasters in the country.

    Other than that, IAS officers deal with the Arms Act, Drug Licence Act, etc. These Laws are updated from time to time as per the Central Government’s Instructions.

    Role of an IAS Officer

    After completing the training, the officer’s role depends on which type of task given to them. Three types of tasks are given that an IAS officer has to undertake – Field Task, State Secretariat and Central Secretariat.
