Light to moderate rains lashed several regions of North India yesterday bringing the temperature down.

Several parts of the Delhi and neighboring region received rains late last evening affecting traffic and flight movements.

A Delhi airport spokesperson yesterday said that 14 flights were diverted to Lucknow, Amritsar, Ahmedabad and Jaipur due to bad weather.

Till 8:30 pm, Safdurjung and Palam observatories recorded 18.5 and 14.8 mm rainfall. The capital may witness light rains today as well.

According to the MeT department, the rainfall happened due to a western disturbance, a cyclonic storm that originates in the Mediterranean region.

Several high reaches of Himachal Pradesh also received fresh snowfall whereas many areas in the middle and lower hills experienced rain and hailstorm. The sudden change in the weather brought down the maximum temperatures in the state.

Meanwhile, the Shimla Meteorological Centre predicted rain and snowfall in some areas of the state today as well.

Keylong received 3 cm snowfall and also recorded the lowest temperature in the state at minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.

Dharamshala witnessed 17 mm rain, followed by Shimla and Kangra with 13 mm each.
