Lok Sabha polls: BJP, AGP to fight together in Assam

The BJP and Asom Gana Parishad, AGP have decided to fight together with the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The decision was taken in a meeting held in Guwahati last night in the presence of senior BJP leader Ram Madhav.

AGP President Atul Bora and Executive President Keshab Mahanta along with Convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present in the meeting. It may be recalled that recently three ministers of Asom Gana Parishad had resigned from the BJP led government in Assam over the Citizenship Amendment bill.

After days of speculation,the BJP and Asom Gana Parishad decided to make an alliance. Bodoland People’sFront is the third member in the alliance. The party has given ticket to SocialWelfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma at Kokrajhar seat. The BJP and Asom GanaParishad separated due to the differences over the Citizenship Amendment billand Asom Gana Parishad ministers resigned from the ministry. But both theparties decided to contest the polls unitedly to defeat the main oppositionCongress. The list of candidates by both the parties is expected to beannounced soon.
