  • Longtime NeighborWorks Housing Solutions Partner John Curtis of Curtis Construction Co. Donates $10,000 toward Emergency Assistance

KINGSTON, QUINCY, BROCKTON, BOSTON, WEYMOUTH, STOUGHTON, and MILTON, MA: NeighborWorks® Housing Solutions (NHS; www.nhsmass.org), the leading housing service provider in southeastern Massachusetts, announced today that they recently received a gift of $10,000 from Curtis Construction Co.  This donation will specifically support NHS’s emergency assistance efforts for vulnerable families and formerly homeless individuals in NHS housing in Quincy and Weymouth.

Founded in 1998, Curtis Construction Co. (www.curtiscon.com) is a full-service contractor and consulting partner based in Stoughton that provides general contracting, construction management, and design-build and due diligence services to private developers and nonprofit organizations throughout Massachusetts and southern New England.  Curtis Construction has been a strong player in the multifamily/affordable and market rate sectors for over two decades, Curtis has scores of successful projects from which to draw experience and lessons learned to apply to new situations.

John Curtis, president and founder of Curtis Construction and resident of Milton, has been a partner of NeighborWorks Housing Solutions for more than 15 years.  Curtis was first introduced to NHS through a Housing First for Homeless project in Quincy.  From there Curtis has been a supporter of NHS and their mission for many years, and is a frequent attendee at NHS events, including the annual Mulligan Golf Tournament, which raises much needed resources for formerly homeless veterans.

“John is an incredible supporter of our mission.  He is a man of great character, and it shows in the way he gives back to the community,” said Robert Corley, CEO of NeighborWorks Housing Solutions.  “Once he was introduced to our mission, he quickly became a strong supporter, because he feels it’s the right thing to do.

“I remember one Thanksgiving he and his family called and asked to deliver food and gifts to veterans living in our veterans’ home in Weymouth.  He and his family wanted them to know that someone was thinking about them during the holidays,” Corley added.  “John is quietly the real-deal.  He has selflessly helped our organization because he believes in our work, and knows that families thrive when they have a safe and affordable place to live.”

Curtis has also worked on previous housing projects with NHS, and has been a longtime supporter of the organization’s annual golf tournament.  In 2018, the organization awarded Curtis the Robert and Mildred Foy Good Neighbor Award in recognition of being an individual who exemplifies what it means to be a “good neighbor.”

As a result of this most recent donation, NeighborWorks Housing Solutions will be able to continue to provide fresh food and produce for multiple families on a monthly basis for at least the next six months.  This type of assistance greatly contributes to keeping families safe and housed.

“2020 was a very chaotic year, filled with so much uncertainty for so many.  John’s gift helps provide some sense of stability and relief.  John and his family have a strong commitment to give back to their community” added Corley.  “His Jesuit values and sense of purpose both for himself and of everyone on his team truly allow Curtis Construction to stand out in this important work.  We have been fortunate to have John’s friendship, and we are so grateful for his continued support.”
