Look Out Circular against Lalit Modi

Enforcement Directorate has issued a Look Out Circular against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi at all entry points and airports in the country in connection with its probe into alleged misappropriation of funds in the T20 cricket tournament.

The circular empowers police and other enforcement agencies at these check points to detain the individual who has been flagged and immediately inform the issuing agency- ED in this case- about the detention.

Adding to the troubles of the sacked IPL Chairman, the ED has also initiated the process of revoking his passport and is examining the FIR filed by the Cricket Board against him for alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 470 crore.

The ED had recently issued an international Blue Notice Alert for detention of Modi for alleged “serious contraventions” of the foreign exchange law in connection with IPL.

The Blue Notice bears Modi’s photograph and passport number besides other details.

Modi, however, has said that he has always cooperated with the Enforcement Directorate and that he is ready to appear before the agency personally in London or through video conferencing.

BCCI secretary N Srinivasan had also lodged a criminal complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner against Modi.

The BCCI charged Modi with misappropriation of Board’s funds, mainly in allotting media rights and free commercial rights.

The complaint was filed in Chennai as the Board is registered there.
