World Environment Day (WED) is a UN Environment-led global event observed on June 5th every year, for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues. This year India was the proud host for this event, wherein it took on to the responsibility to highlight the environmental challenges it faces and took the initiative to address them. World Environment Day was celebrated across the country through a series of engaging activities and events generating strong public interest and participation. From pan-Indian plastic clean-up drives in public areas, national reserves and forests to simultaneous beach clean-up activities – India led the initiative successfully 

MADE EASY SCHOOL, Bandhwari, Gurugram and its charitable trust MADE EASY FOR YOU enthusiastically participated in this event and stepped forward to #BeatPlasticPollution. MADE EASY SCHOOL Staff and students created over 10000 paper bags by reusing waste paper and distributed these bags to street vendors across Gurugram and Delhi. MADE EASY SCHOOL has made all the efforts towards bringing about a change and will continue to educate its students to say NO to plastic. The school creates its own paper bags by reusing waste paper to avoid usage of plastic bags in the school and to instill a sense of sustainability among the students and the parents.

MADE EASY SCHOOL also initiated a cleanliness drive in the neighboring areas to eradicate plastic completely from the surroundings and educated people about the harm that plastic is causing and how it could be replaced. A plantation activity was organized for the children of the village whereas the adults were trained on how to make bags out of waste paper and old clothes.  

Mrs. Jyoti Singh, MD, MADE EASY GROUP, who initiated and actively supported this event, said “We will continue to create awareness and supply these bags regularly to ensure that these street vendors can completely discard the use of polythene bags”
