Haflong  : People of Maibang, the capital city of ancient Dimasa kingdom and also a Sub-Divisional HQ peeved over the indifference attitude of the Railway authority as the Railway is yet to construct a much-needed foot-over bridge at Maibang Railway station.

The people of Maibang in general and some students’ organizations like All Dimasa Students Union in particular had been approaching the Railway authority to solve the issues like reservation facility at Maibang Station, Stoppage of Kanchanjangha Express, Foot-over bridge, improvement of the existing over bridge etc.

People said they were very happy and hoped the BG conversion of Lumding – Silchar would be a boon for them but due to Railway’s apathy Railway services after the BG conversion has become a bane for them. Some other opined that MG was better than BG as it did not help the people of Dima Hasao who have contributed a lot for the BG conversion.

Student leader Mairing Johori said ‘we have been approaching the Railway since long with few genuine issues relating Railway amenities also submitted memoranda eight times right from the Railway Ministry to Divisional Railway Manager Lumding but no action from the Railway authority was visible at Maibang’. Reminding the several agitations of past at Maibang, he said the Railway authority should not take test of people’s tolerance anymore as nothing could be taken as guaranty since the people are fed up with the Railway authority’s delay delaying tactics. Expressing concern, Johori said due to such negligence several human lives were lost in absence of foot-over Bridge at Maibang station, because people have to cross the railway every now and then for their daily need and also to reach offices. He warned the Railway not to compel the people of Maibang to take the path of stronger agitation for which people of Maibang should not be held responsible.
