Guwahati : Major Leetul Gogoi who became a household name after the incident where he tied a man as a human shield to his vehicle last year was reportedly detained by police in Srinagar after he was allegedly caught with a young woman in a Hotel. While some reports are alleging that he was caught in a compromising position with the woman, other reports say that one woman and a person named Budgam had come to see the Major at a hotel named Grand Mamta Hotel but were prohibited from meeting him as the staff got suspicious which reportedly led to an altercation. The hotel had then reportedly informed the police who detained the woman and the man accompanying her along with the Major. Reports also suggest that the woman’s documents that are being verified suggest that she is a minor and that the police, however, has neither denied nor confirmed the identity of the Major yet. The latest reports coming in say that Major Gogoi was handed over to his unit after recording his statement at the police station Khanyar. Major Leetul Gogoi hailing from Namrup in Assam belongs to the 53 Rashtriya Rifles and he received the Indian Army chief ’s ‘commendation card’ for his ‘sustained efforts’ in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Gogoi had tied a civilian Farooq Ahmad Dar in Budgam district during Srinagar Parliamentary elections in April last year which had led to much controversy.
