A 32-year-old, giving up a good job, and taking off for some remote land, may sound like he’s had enough of the world. But not Mangesh Jha.

He gave up a lucrative job in 2014 to distribute sanitary pads to tribal women living in remote villages of Jharkhand, and his mission has transformed the way people live.

Mangesh Jha would visit several remote villages of the state, and teach tribal women, who were initially skeptical of him about menstrual hygiene.

He also distributes sanitary pads to them. But how effective has his campaign been?

Mangesh who worked with a leading 5-star hotel chain, gave up the comfort of that job to travel to distant places without proper roads, just to spread the word about menstrual hygiene, among women who normally wouldn’t discuss these issues, and would not address them due to poverty. Mangesh was recognized by film star Akshay Kumar for this unique work.

Well, there has been plenty of change due to Mangesh’s efforts.

The rural communities are now discussing this matter and taboos associated with menstrual cycles, health and hygiene have gone away. Women have taken it upon themselves to change their habits and the men folk too are in agreement.
Mangesh’s efforts have borne fruit, and it is catching on in other parts too.
