    Published on January 9, 2021

To commemorate the World Ambulance Day which was on 8th January 20201, Manipal Hospital Vijayawada conducted a free Basic Life Saving (BLS) and First aid in medical emergencies training session with the drivers of 108 services. The session was aimed to reiterate the importance of getting hands-on with basic life-saving techniques which are very essential during the golden hours.

Speaking at the event, Dr Srinivasan B, Consultant Accident & Emergency Care, Manipal Hospital – Vijayawada said, “The role of 108 staff gets very crucial while the patient is being taken to the hospital, which is the golden hour. Providing basic assistance in life-threatening illnesses or injuries until they can be given full medical care at a hospital. Through this activity, we want to make sure that the drivers, who are one of the first people to meet the patient in a critical scenario, to be equipped and be knowledgeable about the basic life-saving techniques. This will help them in making sure that the patient’s health doesn’t deteriorate or go out of hand during the golden hour.

Adding to this Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital – Vijayawada said, “The golden hour is one of the most crucial hours in a critical scenario. Since the drivers are one of the first people to attend the patient, they should inevitably be able to be equipped with BLS methods and First aid in medical emergencies. Through this session, we want to make sure that the 108 ambulance drivers are kept informed about the different healthcare problems and the relevant treatment centres where that particular patient need to be taken to get the relevant treatment for their health problem. Through this initiative, we want to make sure that any patient, irrespective of their health problem, be provided with the required assistance in the golden hour.”

On January 8th of every year, Manipal Hospital, Vijayawada celebrates the importance and contributions of the ambulance services, who are the unsung heroes, in the entire chain of healthcare ecosystem.
