  • Manipal Hospitals, Bengaluru performs Karnataka’s 1st Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty procedure and launches the Obesity & Metabolic Clinic

    Bengaluru : In a bid to address the rising obesity issues, Manipal Hospitals today unveiled the “Obesity & Metabolic Clinic”. The Department of Medical Gastroenterology at Manipal Hospitals Bengaluru also conducted a deep dive Live Workshop on Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)- a new, safe and effective treatment option for obesity.

    Obesity is a medical condition that occurs when a person has excess body weight. It is rapidly emerging as a global epidemic, which has profound health consequences with rise in obesity related co-morbidities like Hypertension, Diabetes, OSA, Hyperlipidemia, Coronary artery disease.

    With Medical Gastroenterologists becoming increasingly involved in the management of obesity, the aim of the highly interactive Workshop and CME was to highlight and assess the effectiveness of minimally invasive, non- surgical therapies like Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty  and Intragastric balloons to facilitate weight loss and the treatment of obesity and other obesity-related comorbidities.

    Speaking on the occasion was, Dr. Mohit Shetti, Gastroenterologist, Manipal Hospitals Bengaluru said,

    “Until recently, therapies for Obesity included lifestyle modification, medication and Bariatric surgery. The Endoscopic Bariatric Therapy (EBT) is a new addition in the management of obesity and is a safe and effective weight loss therapy option. Endoscopic bariatric therapy has brought a paradigm shift in the  management of obesity offering nonsurgical options to patients to achieve effective weight loss. This new therapy continues to evolve. Whilst, being minimally invasive it has the added advantage of being precise, safe and efficacious”. Also, for a multi-disciplinary approach to treating obesity cases, Manipal Hospitals inaugurated the Obesity and Metabolic Clinic today”.
